Coastal Scents Revealed Palette - The Best Dupe for the Naked Palettes Yet

The concept of Urban Decay's NAKED palette has been such a success that ever since its launch many other brands have been coming out with THEIR OWN versions of neutral palettes.

And the rest...

And while some of them have become successful in their own right, nothing has been launched that is quite as similar to the Naked palettes until Coastal Scents released the Revealed palette 1-2 months ago.

This palette in it's entirety is a dupe for not just one, but both the original NAKED and Naked 2 palettes because Coastal Scents so blatantly and unapologetically mimics many of the Urban Decay Naked shades.

It kind of reminds me of the way ELF blatantly mimics certain NARS products.

Pros:
The quality, creaminess and the pigmentation of the shadows is surprisingly good, and there is less fallout with the Coastal Scents shadows than with the Urban Decay shadows.

The palette is very thin and compact. Comparable to the Lorac Pro and the Lorac Unzipped palettes, except the Revealed palette is lighter in weight.

The Revealed palette  comes with a strong magnetic enclosure that will reliably stay closed in your handbag or carry on.

The palette retails for $19.95 on the Coastal Scent's website, which I think is a great value considering you would technically pay less than $1 per Urban Decay dupe you get. But when Coastal Scents has flash sales or Holiday sales on their website there's a potential to snag this gem for 15% -50% off, which is ultimately why I finally gave in to buying it.

This palette is great because it saves you money; but it's also great because it saves you space and time because you are able to see all of your options right in front of you instead of bouncing back and forth between two palettes.

I feel like this palette would be a great option for makeup artists who might be just starting out. It's lightweight, slim and compact; if you're doing makeup on someone else you don't necessarily need a mirror and you don't have to worry as much about it being stolen because it's not a high end product. In the case that it does get lost, broken, or stolen it's easily replaceable because you can do so economically instead of grudgingly.

Cons:
The Revealed palette does not come with a mirror which might make traveling somewhat difficult or inconvenient since that's another thing you would have to bring with you.

The shadows have a smell to them. It kind of reminds me of a new car smell, but with a heavier chemical undertone. If you've purchased any kind of eyeshadow palette from Coastal Scents you know what I mean. It's the same smell, and I haven't had this palette long enough to determine whether the smell will fade over time. If you know that's something that'll bother you, I can't recommend this palette.

The palette might correspond to the UD shadows in similarity, but some of them are not exact dupes. As most of us know UD likes glitter and sparkle in all of their products. Most of the shades in this palette are shimmery, but not grotesquely shimmery. None of the shadows have sparkle or glitter, which I think makes them even more wearable than the Urban Decay Shades. If you like sparkle and shimmer, you might not appreciate this palette as much.

There are five mattes in the Revealed palette: The dupes for Foxy, Buck, Naked, Tease and Blackout. that's enough matte to give you options as far as creating a variety of looks. That's also enough to create an entirely matte look.  However, if an all matte look is your prerogative I suggest using a skin colored base. Not just a primer; a base. The matte colors don't have as much color payoff as the mattes in the UD palettes. Unless you have a lighter skin tone, it might be a little difficult to get them to stand out against medium-tan skin tones or darker.

The Dupe for black out comes off as a charcoal grey instead of a saturated black. So if black is what you want, you would need to bring in something else from your collection.

The Verdict

I really like this palette, for me, the pros outweigh cons. I would recommend this to someone who doesn't have the Naked or Naked2 and would like to try it, but doesn't exactly want to cough up $52.
But of course, it has to be the right kind of person. The right kind of person wouldn't stick up their nose up at something form Coastal Scents just because it isn't high end.
But I do think it's a comparable alternative, and I really like it.
